Once my son or daughter starts university, I will tell them to not entirely focus on their studies. Grades does not have to be the highest, but don't let it be shit either. Instead, divide 50% for your own finance/entrepreneurship. Especially if they're taking engineering. Maybe this also applies to other social science, such as law, accounting, language arts, etc.
Tell them to invest in stock, study them. start a business. sell cakes, reselling stuff, dropshipping. Heck, maybe architect freelance too, or whatever it is that will be popular in the future, and may be a source of income. What ever feels close to them.
Make no mistake, I am very thankful to finally have a job during the pandemic (job hunting is definitely discouraging at times like these), but cmon. Being a corporate slave sucks.
But now that I experience it, I'll drill these to their heads, and make them understand the importance of time. Honestly, I didn't really do anything productive in my uni days. all i wanted to do was have fun. Sure, I did invest but didn't deepen it. Partially because I lost my teen fun in high school, and feeling need to compensate it in uni or I'll go insane. lol.
Anyway, so yeah. Tell them push them even, to do any, or all above during their free time. Let them get a feel as to which one suits them best. Business, invest, whatever. After they get a feel which one clicks the most, let them focus on it. If they feel they don't need a job, and just focus on their business, good on them.
This writing may be all over the place, but its what I think and feel. Just my two cents I guess.
